Find Picture Pairs: the Matching Game, Reimagined
Find Picture Pairs is the picture matching game from childhood, for iPhone and iPad: turn cards over, remember what was where, and bring matching pictures together. I build the app on my own, and I love games that are simple yet still surprise. That is why, next to the classic round, there are two modes that really change the game, and everything runs offline, with no ads, no subscription and no tracking.
What it looks like
Matching pairs, nothing in the way
Almost everyone knows the rule: all cards lie face down, and each turn you flip two. If they show the same picture, they stay open; if not, they turn back over. The round is won once every pair has been found.
Nothing else happens in this app. No banner between rounds, no offer for gems, no sign-in. Open it and play, and the board belongs to the game alone.
Four modes for the matching game
Classic is the round you know: no time pressure, no move limit, played at your own pace.
In Beat the Clock, time starts with the first card you flip, and at the end you earn a medal: bronze, silver or gold. There is deliberately no way to lose: the clock awards medals; it never takes the board away from anyone.
Rotation is the first twist. After each turn, two hidden neighbouring cards secretly swap places, and what you just memorised may already be out of date.
Triplets is the second: you look for three matching cards instead of two. It sounds like a small change and alters every round.
Ten board sizes, from 3x4 to 6x8
The smallest board has twelve cards and is over quickly, even for small children. The largest, 6x8, has 48 cards and is real work for adults. In between there are ten sizes in all for the pair modes, and eight for Triplets. For every size, the picker shows the number of cards and roughly how long a round takes.
So the same app plays on the small board with a child in the afternoon and on the big one on the sofa in the evening.
Eight card themes and 18 accent colours
The cards show whatever suits the moment: drawn icons of animals and objects, symbols and shapes, comic motifs for kids, or real photos of nature, beach and sea, and cars. Every photo is credited to its photographer, and the credits are in the app under Photos by Theme. If you can't decide, let chance pick.
On top of that come 18 accent colours for cards and controls. How legible the labels are on each of them is calculated by the app for every surface, rather than simply assumed.
Hints, achievements and a fast speed
If you are completely stuck, tap the hint and the app highlights matching cards. That helps the youngest players in particular past the moment when they would otherwise lose interest.
There are achievements to discover and collect, from your first finished game through a board without a single miss to gold on the largest grid. Sound can be muted, and for anyone who finds the flipping too leisurely there is an extra-fast speed.
Fair, offline and readable on any screen
Find Picture Pairs costs something once, and after that there are no ads, no subscription, no tracking and no hidden in-app purchases. So a child cannot spend money by accident. The app runs entirely without internet and without an account, and your data stays on the device.
Every card carries a VoiceOver label, text follows your chosen text size, and animations respect Reduce Motion. The app is fully translated into every language of its store page, and on iPad the menu uses the whole screen.
